Looking for Alaska by John Green; Page 221 (an excerpt; modified):
“Sometimes in life, we go through awful things, but you need not fold into yourself and self-destruct. All of those awful things are survivable, because we are as indestructible as we believe ourselves to be. When someone says “Teenagers think they are invincible,” with a sly smile on their faces, they just don’t know how right they are. WE NEED NEVER BE HOPELESS, BECAUSE WE CAN NEVER BE IRREPARABLY BROKEN. We think we are invincible because we are.”
There is no mountain you can’t climb, no desert you can’t cross, there is nothing you can do that could make Him love you any less. In His eyes, we are perfect. I am challenging every one of you to use your time at camp to confront those awful things that may make you feel hopeless, to accept them & thank them for teaching you how to be stronger, thank them for bringing you closer to God.
We need never be hopeless, because [with God] we can never be irreparably broken.
